The Best Dressed Casts at the Emmys

Today’s post comes from Melanie Jachles, Cami Clarkson, and Lauren Rigney; our digital team’s resident fashionistas.

Sunday night, September 18th, marked the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards, and while the purpose of the show was awarding television, we know 99% of you tuned in for the fashion. Consequently, in the midst of ogling over glamorous gowns galore, a trend started to emerge. The more widely applauded the TV show, the more impressive the fashion choices for their cast members. Case in point: the leading ladies of Glee, Mad Men, and Modern Family.

The women of Glee know how to wow on-screen with their vibrant vocals, but on Sunday night they weren’t afraid to wow off-screen with their fierce and fearless fashion. Jane Lynch ditched her tracksuit for a glammed up look – she showed a preference for purple as she played host for the night in four custom-made David Meister gowns. Each Meister gown stunned and sparkled as Lynch entertained the audience. Lea Michele knocked it out of the park in a backless, fire engine- red Marchesa gown that screamed sophistication.

We can’t discuss Emmy fashion without mentioning the cast of Mad Men – the show’s signature looks and carefully constructed costumes have been a major inspiration for this season’s style. From head to toe, the women of Mad Men sparkled in true 50s elegance. Christina Hendricks showed off her voluptuous figure in a form-fitting, intricately beaded Johanna Johnson gown while Elisabeth Moss glowed on the red carpet in a second-skin Marchesa with delicate detailing.

This year, Modern Family really stole the show taking home an impressive five awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series. But where the Dunphy dames really thrived was in the fashion department. The show’s matriarchs marveled – Julie Bowen wore a silver and black Oscar de la Renta gown while Sofia Vergara flaunted her racy curves in a red Vera Wang. The young starlets also stunned, with Sarah Hyland donning a coral one-strapped Christian Siriano dress and Ariel Winter showing her mature side in pale pink.

Maybe TV’s stars took notes during New York Fashion week, because red carpet fashion flubs were rare this Emmy season. And now that the fall TV season is kicking off, we cannot wait to watch our favorite fashionistas do their thing on-air.

Until we meet again, red carpet…
